“When Did I Become Black,” was a poem I wrote as part of the online writing series “Poetry Battles,” #pb15Black. The prompt required us to dissect what it meant to be black, from an individual perspective. This is a piece that really moved me and helped me understand concepts that I had before then, taken for granted.
