The Sleuth Running to Become Kenya’s Fifth President

You know the saying, that once a sleuth, always a sleuth. With Kenya’s general elections a little over fifty days away, special attention is drawn to the candidates running to succeed Kenya’s 4th President, Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta, and in particular, Prof. George Wajackoyah, ‘the man, the myth, the legend.’

Other than a few interviews over the years, about his life story and his rise from rags to grace, little is still known, and being revealed about the former spy who was once attached to ‘Special Branch;’ once Kenya’s formidable and clandestine intelligence bureau.

A quick search on google on Professor George Wajackoyah, will reveal that he is an individual who has shaped his destiny, and has done it perfectly. He was once a street child, became a night guard; has dug graves to earn a living; and most importantly, he is a ‘former spy.’ Today, he is a professor of law, priest, politician, leader of the Roots Party, and one of the frontrunners for Kenya’s presidency in August 2022. Apart from his career, he is a learned individual with at least 16 degrees and can speak 11 languages, including local Kenyan dialects.

Born in Jinja, Uganda in 1959, and a Kenyan citizen from the Luhya tribe of Kenya through his father; the self-styled ‘Wajackoyah the Fifth,’ has over the past two years, gained national prominence as a formidable candidate running to occupy the house on the hill, — a local reference for Kenya’s State House.

From an initial list of 56 candidates who had expressed their interest in becoming Kenya’s fifth occupant of the presidency, Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has whittled the list down to 4, and unsurprisingly, Prof. George Wajackoyah, is among the four candidates slated to be on the ballot box, beating other far more prominent Kenyans, who were disqualified on issues of technicalities.
