I Never Chase

“I Never Chase” is a poem that delves into the back and forth that most people have while in the courting phase. When you are guards are up, and sadly a lot of mind games are played. Each party is scared of being hurt, unsure whether they really want to commit to a relationship, or even doubt the feelings they have for each other. This is piece, is a reminder that the back and forth isn’t necessary; that the mind games are uncalled for. It is a call to remember yourself, and the reasons for your being.
I Never Chase
I never like chasing,
I hate the mind games that come with it,
We pretend not to like each other,
Only for you to get angry when you see me with another,
I prefer it when you come to me,
When you profess your feelings to me,
Without fears from your ego,
Because you trust I’ll do right by you,
I hate the fact that I have to wait,
Because I never chase,
Especially after I have made my intentions clear;
Especially after I’ve told you I care,
I prefer it when we come to each other as we are,
Without the masks;
We are too much soul,
To intentionally hurt each other,
I prefer it when you come to me,
When you profess your feelings to me,
Without fears from your ego,
Because you trust I’ll do right by you,
Wouldn’t life be simpler,
If we gave into our emotions,
Rather than put fronts,
In the name of protecting ourselves?
